Medical Billing And Coding Jobs Still Show Great Promise

The basic function of medical billing and coding jobs can be defined as the practice, of translating medical terminology, diagnosis, diseases, and treatments into coded billing statements which can then be submitted to health insurance providers for payment.

Each and every day doctors treat tens of thousands of patients for all sorts of ailments such as minor bone breaks and sprains, to serious diseases such as cancer and diabetes. These physicians are entitled to receive reimbursements from healthcare insurance providers for the services they provide, and as a result, have a need to hire people to perform this function effectively and efficiently.

Health Today

Individuals employed in medical billing and coding jobs become very specialized and extremely valuable to the physicians and medical facilities with whom they are employed. They must be able to work quickly, accurately, and expedite the process in a timely manner. In addition, a medical biller and coder must be able to help patients with their insurance claim related questions as well as deal with insurance providers in order to resolve issues which arise.

Pursuing medical billing and coding jobs today, can lead to unlimited opportunities in the future. For example, with a little initiative, persistence, and perseverance many coders and billers working within healthcare facilities find themselves presented with opportunities in senior management or administrative positions. Others, with a more entrepreneurial spirit, can set up their own medical billing and coding agencies, and take advantage of working from their own home.

In fact, the popularity of medical billing from home and medical coding from home is increasing at an unprecedented rate. From the perspective of the employer, there is an immediate cost saving in that many of these positions are set up on a contract basis meaning that certain benefits do not have to be paid. The medical biller or coder on the other hand, has the flexibility of setting their own hours, eliminating commute time, and are able to better balance work and personal life.

There is a tremendous need for billers and coders, and as a result, there are generally many medical billing and coding jobs available within the healthcare industry. Most employers, however, will only consider and hire individuals who are qualified.

If you are looking for a career within the industry, take it seriously, and view it as a career not just a job. The opportunities are endless and the work can be satisfying. No matter where you are located or how busy you are, there is a program at a college or online, which will enable you to get qualified and begin your journey.

What's the Biggest Health Care Issue Today? - It's Not Health Insurance, It's Lifestyle Disease

Would you consider AIDs, Avian Flu, Swine Flu and Cancer to be the biggest health concerns that exist today?

If so, you would be wrong, because there is another pandemic out there today which includes cardiovascular disease, diabetes (diabetes has increased 70% in 30 year olds in the last 30 years), and hypertension. These are what are now known as diseases of lifestyle, and they are in fact the biggest killers that exist today. In fact if you take into account the origins of most cancers, it too can be related back to lifestyle.

Health Today

Obesity has also become an epidemic. In the US, 65% of adults and 15 % of kids are clinically obese. In 1985 there were under 10 US states with over 10% obesity (1 in 10 people had a BMI of over 30). In 2007, not one US state had less than 10% obesity. In fact almost every state has at least doubled and some places now have 1 in 3 obesity levels. These figures were taken from the Center for Disease Control website (cdc.org)

This may be the first generation where parents will have a longer life span than their children...

The United States has influenced countries in Asia, so much that in just one generation it has gone from having one of the lowest rates of heart disease, diabetes and obesity to one of the highest.

For example, if you walked down any street in the South Korean capital, Seoul, you will find a Baskin Robbins, Dunkin Donuts, Krispy Kremes, TGI Fridays, Outback Steakhouse, KFC, and of course McDonalds and Burger King.

Cardiovascular diseases kill more people than all other diseases combined and that's the US, and worldwide now.

Recent Health News Articles on Stress

The people in Siolim, India, who are suffering from stress, depression and anxiety, are seldom properly treated. Doctors and nurses assigned in this far flung fishing and farming village focus more on physical ailments. Mostly, they prioritize children suffering from diarrhea, aging people with heart problems, and laborers with cut injuries. In the same way, locals fear to get diagnosed with related mental problems. They are afraid to experience disgrace from family and friends. It resulted to suffering in silence making their misery worse.

In 2007, two specialists visited the town. Their main purpose was to identify people with anxiety and stress. Surprisingly, the doctors found themselves preoccupied the whole day and for the whole week. Dr. Anil Umraskar, the person in charge, claimed that a great number of people made up a "sizeable crowd" at the clinic. More and more patients with high level stress, anxiety and depression keep appearing daily.

Health Today

They concluded that most of the Indians with moderate to severe mental illness never go untreated. Research revealed that 80% to 90% of people suffering highest level of anxiety and stress do not get adequate treatment. It was then that Dr. Vikram Patel, psychiatrist of London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, started the Siolim Project. As of today, the clinic has been the forefront to treat the emotional and mental condition of the people in the area. It has expressed its potential to transform the mental health problem in some countries in the developing world.

But instead of doctors, the program is training common people to identify symptoms of depression and treat individuals under stressed condition. With India's population of more than one billion people it will take large sums of money to raise more psychiatrists to deal with depression problems. They have only 4,000 specialists in the whole country. Dr. Greg E. Simon, researcher in Centre for Health Studies in Seattle, commended Dr. Patel's advocacy. He said "It's a really interesting, exciting thing he's doing."

The workers claimed that stress and depression has been as common to that of the wealthy. Poor people in poor countries experience the same emotional turmoil and are no longer viewed anxiety as Western affliction.

Most of these poor patients express a wide variety of causes. 29 year old Medha Upadhye, one of the councilors said, "Financial difficulties and interpersonal conflicts are there. But Unemployment and Alcoholism are some of the major problems."

Individuals, who are identified suffering the problem, increase at least 20% in a given year. Experts say that even the remotest and poorest place, severe stress has become a disabling disease similar to malaria. It is theoretically affecting the economic condition of the society. If a farmer is suffering from consistent and constant depression or stress, he cannot get out of bed to work. Most likely, his family will not have food on the table.

Which Foods With DHA Are the Best For the Maximum Health Rewards?

When it comes to foods with DHA, the list is quite short and there are not so many available now because of modern farming methods. Here are the best sources for the maximum rewards.

Very small amounts of DHA may be made in the body from an essential fatty acid, linolenic acid, but the amount made is very low and most comes from our diet. It is mainly found in animal products such as fish, eggs and meats.

Health Today

However, foods with DHA today contain a lot less as the animals no longer eat a natural rich diet themselves, so the corresponding omega 3 levels are much lower.

Oily fish, such as hoki, mackerel, herring and salmon are the richest dietary source of omega 3 fatty acids containing 10 to 100 times more DHA than non fish sources such as nuts, seeds, whole grains and dark green, leafy vegetables.

Those who follow a strict vegetarian diet are most likely to have a low DHA level as the vegetable sources contain an omega 3 called ALA which affects the body in a different way and is rarely converted into the two more useful ones, DHA and EPA.

With an estimated 90% of us being deficient in omega 3 fats, and with most fish today contaminated with toxins like mercury and arsenic, experts agree that a supplement is the best solution of all the foods with DHA.

If you want the health rewards like prevention of heart disease, lower cholesterol and blood pressure, help in the fight against breast and prostate cancer and the effective treatment of arthritis to name a few, then a daily distilled fish oil supplement is the answer.

To select the most effective and safe one ensure it's been molecularly distilled to remove all the harmful impurities and one obviously high in DHA and I would recommend at least 250mg of DHA per capsule.

Many on the market today contain low levels of DHA and may contain traces of the harmful contaminants so check out the website or label carefully to check.

Since the foods with DHA omega 3 fatty acids is so short, an omega 3 supplement containing purified fish oil is the best choice for a healthy diet.

If you would like to learn more about the high quality DHA omega 3 supplements I personally take daily, visit my website today.

Natural Health - Healing Shingles With Essential Oils

One of my famous personal essential oil testimonies is how I got rid of my shingles using ravensara essential oil.

Shingles, aka Herpes Zoster, is a severe and short lived viral infection caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox.

Health Today

It's an infection of the nervous system that affects certain areas of the skin.

Shingles originates from having chicken pox as a child.

During a childhood bout of chicken pox, not all of the viral organisms are destroyed. They hang out and stay quiet - "dormant" - in the nerves in the skin for many years.

When there is severe emotional stress, severe illness, or things that severely affect the immune system, these "dormant" critters wake up and get active again, and cause an infection.

The pain is severe and sometimes long lived, and the medical approach is anti-viral medications, steroids, pain meds, and antibiotics for potential skin infection
- and not everyone wants to take this approach (although if the outbreak is near the eyes you should definitely seek medical attention!)

So once again we say Thank God for the oils!

I had a shingles outbreak a few years ago when my mother, who had been diagnosed with kidney cancer, had surgery to have her kidney removed.

I was so stressed out that I wasn't paying attention to my body. It's interesting how that happens, isn't it?

Our bodies have to tell us the degree of how much stress we are under if we're not paying attention.

When I found out I had shingles I ran to my two favorite resource books - the Essential Desk Reference and The Alternative Medicine Definitive Guide by the Burton Goldberg Group.

Both of these books mentioned ravensara - which I had in my oil collection and loved for sinus issues.

I immediately took some internally (I had taken ravensara internally before for bronchitis so I was comfortable taking it internally again).

I put 7 drops in an empty gel cap and I took one capsule in the morning and one at night. Within one day my pain and symptoms went away.

I decided to keep myself on this regime for 21 days because that is the normal life span of a virus. My symptoms stayed away for the whole time except for one day I did forget to take my dose.

I said to myself "oh, I probably don't have shingles - I don't have symptoms so I'll stop taking the capsules." Well, within one day the symptoms came back, so I resumed to completion.

Now not everyone will feel comfortable taking oils internally, so here are ways you can use essential oils topically for the discomfort of shingles:

Blend together:

-- 10 drops sandalwood
-- 5 drops blue cypress
-- 4 drops peppermint
-- 2 drops ravensara

Dilute 50:50 with massage oil and apply 6 - 10 drops on the affected area, back of neck, and down the spine 1 - 3 times daily. (from Essential Desk Reference)

____
A case study was done of six hospice patients with shingles. It was found that three essential oils combined together and placed in distilled water and used as a spritz improved the symptoms of the shingles.

The three oils used were:

--ravensara
--bergamot
--niaouli

Aromatherapist Noel Gilligan ran this study. Mr Gilligan reported that after 48 hours:

--there was a significant reduction in the pain from the shingles
--scabbing and healing of the pustules took place and in one
instance there was a disappearance of the pustules

The Zen Macrobiotic Diet - For Health & Happiness

The Zen Macrobiotic diet originated over a century ago and today enjoys a worldwide following due its principles of harmonious living with nature through a balanced whole foods diet, and an active lifestyle and respect for the environment.

Lets look at why the Zen Macrobiotic diet has such a reputation for being one of the healthiest diets in the world.

Health Today

Origins of the Zen Macrobiotic diet

Dr. Ishizuka ( the originator of the Zen Macrobiotic diet ) suffered both kidney and skin disease, so to restore his health conducted extensive research which was compiled into two books-Chemical Theory of Longevity, published in 1896, and Diet For Health, published in 1898.

His great successor Yukikazu Sakurazawa integrated the theory with elements of eastern and western philosophy and gave the diet the name we know it by today.

Zen Macrobiotic Diet theory

The Macrobiotic philosophy is based on the oriental principles that everything in creation is made up of two antagonistic but complementary forces--yin (passive, silent, cold and dark) and yang (active, hot and heavy).

Consequently, they categorized all foodstuffs as 'yin' and 'yang', or combinations of them both. They believe that the ideal diet is one that can help balance these two forces in the body.

According to Mr. Ohsawa's yin and yang guidelines for the Zen Macrobiotic diet:

o Cereals must always be every meal's basis. The most ideal is whole, brown rice.

o Vegetables can supplement cereals, but in lesser quantities and less frequently. Eggplant and tomatoes must be avoided, as they are extremely yin.

o Fresh fish can be used occasionally. Animal and dairy products and fruits are to be used in minute amounts.

o All fluids should be taken as infrequently as possible, since they are very yin, especially tea, coffee, colas and sweetened juices. Tea made from fresh herbs, and spring water are thought to be the most balanced and acceptable beverages. Mr. Ohsawa gave a special recipe for such a tea.

Ohsawa himself defined macrobiotics as a dietetic medicine-philosophy, while his successors simply call it "a sensible way of eating". Actually, then, there is no macrobiotic diet per se, just general principles.

General principles of the Zen Macrobiotic diet

Diets based on cereal grains with minority proportions of vegetables, legumes, and seaweeds are considered ideal.

The Zen Macrobiotic diet is predominantly, but not absolutely, vegetarian.

The Zen Macrobiotic diet makes general dietary recommendations, particularly that 40 to 60 percent of caloric intake should come from whole grains, including rice, millet, barley, wheat, oats, rye, corn and buckwheat.

Additionally to the type of food eaten, the Zen Macrobiotic Diet advises:

o Do not eat processed, sugared, dyed, canned, bottled, or other adulterated food.

o Eat no foods produced have been treated with pesticides, chemical fertilizers or preservatives.

o Eat no foods imported from a long distance.

o Eat no vegetables or fruits out of season.

o Refrain from eating extreme yin vegetables, such as potatoes, tomatoes and eggplant.

o Use no spices, chemical seasonings or processed table salt.

o Drink no coffee or black tea.

o Refrain from flesh and dairy foods except for occasional fish and game birds.

o No refined flour products, yeasted foods or foods containing baking soda.

o Chew one's food thoroughly (at least 30 times - preferably more).

o Cook all food with a gas fire. Electricity is said to create chaotic energy patterns, and microwaves.

The Zen Macrobiotic Diet's 5 guiding principles for healthy living are:

1. Foods are the foundation of health and happiness.

2. Sodium and potassium (as in salt) are the primary antagonistic and complementary elements in food. They most strongly determine its character-or "yin / yang" quality of each food.

3. Grain is proper and nature staple food of man.

4. Food should be unrefined, whole, and natural.

5. Food should be grown locally and eaten in season.

The Zen Macrobiotic diet has millions of devotes throughout the world due to its healthiness and the feeling of well being that followers of the diet enjoy.
