Medical Billing And Coding Jobs Still Show Great Promise

The basic function of medical billing and coding jobs can be defined as the practice, of translating medical terminology, diagnosis, diseases, and treatments into coded billing statements which can then be submitted to health insurance providers for payment.

Each and every day doctors treat tens of thousands of patients for all sorts of ailments such as minor bone breaks and sprains, to serious diseases such as cancer and diabetes. These physicians are entitled to receive reimbursements from healthcare insurance providers for the services they provide, and as a result, have a need to hire people to perform this function effectively and efficiently.

Health Today

Individuals employed in medical billing and coding jobs become very specialized and extremely valuable to the physicians and medical facilities with whom they are employed. They must be able to work quickly, accurately, and expedite the process in a timely manner. In addition, a medical biller and coder must be able to help patients with their insurance claim related questions as well as deal with insurance providers in order to resolve issues which arise.

Pursuing medical billing and coding jobs today, can lead to unlimited opportunities in the future. For example, with a little initiative, persistence, and perseverance many coders and billers working within healthcare facilities find themselves presented with opportunities in senior management or administrative positions. Others, with a more entrepreneurial spirit, can set up their own medical billing and coding agencies, and take advantage of working from their own home.

In fact, the popularity of medical billing from home and medical coding from home is increasing at an unprecedented rate. From the perspective of the employer, there is an immediate cost saving in that many of these positions are set up on a contract basis meaning that certain benefits do not have to be paid. The medical biller or coder on the other hand, has the flexibility of setting their own hours, eliminating commute time, and are able to better balance work and personal life.

There is a tremendous need for billers and coders, and as a result, there are generally many medical billing and coding jobs available within the healthcare industry. Most employers, however, will only consider and hire individuals who are qualified.

If you are looking for a career within the industry, take it seriously, and view it as a career not just a job. The opportunities are endless and the work can be satisfying. No matter where you are located or how busy you are, there is a program at a college or online, which will enable you to get qualified and begin your journey.

What's the Biggest Health Care Issue Today? - It's Not Health Insurance, It's Lifestyle Disease

Would you consider AIDs, Avian Flu, Swine Flu and Cancer to be the biggest health concerns that exist today?

If so, you would be wrong, because there is another pandemic out there today which includes cardiovascular disease, diabetes (diabetes has increased 70% in 30 year olds in the last 30 years), and hypertension. These are what are now known as diseases of lifestyle, and they are in fact the biggest killers that exist today. In fact if you take into account the origins of most cancers, it too can be related back to lifestyle.

Health Today

Obesity has also become an epidemic. In the US, 65% of adults and 15 % of kids are clinically obese. In 1985 there were under 10 US states with over 10% obesity (1 in 10 people had a BMI of over 30). In 2007, not one US state had less than 10% obesity. In fact almost every state has at least doubled and some places now have 1 in 3 obesity levels. These figures were taken from the Center for Disease Control website (cdc.org)

This may be the first generation where parents will have a longer life span than their children...

The United States has influenced countries in Asia, so much that in just one generation it has gone from having one of the lowest rates of heart disease, diabetes and obesity to one of the highest.

For example, if you walked down any street in the South Korean capital, Seoul, you will find a Baskin Robbins, Dunkin Donuts, Krispy Kremes, TGI Fridays, Outback Steakhouse, KFC, and of course McDonalds and Burger King.

Cardiovascular diseases kill more people than all other diseases combined and that's the US, and worldwide now.

Recent Health News Articles on Stress

The people in Siolim, India, who are suffering from stress, depression and anxiety, are seldom properly treated. Doctors and nurses assigned in this far flung fishing and farming village focus more on physical ailments. Mostly, they prioritize children suffering from diarrhea, aging people with heart problems, and laborers with cut injuries. In the same way, locals fear to get diagnosed with related mental problems. They are afraid to experience disgrace from family and friends. It resulted to suffering in silence making their misery worse.

In 2007, two specialists visited the town. Their main purpose was to identify people with anxiety and stress. Surprisingly, the doctors found themselves preoccupied the whole day and for the whole week. Dr. Anil Umraskar, the person in charge, claimed that a great number of people made up a "sizeable crowd" at the clinic. More and more patients with high level stress, anxiety and depression keep appearing daily.

Health Today

They concluded that most of the Indians with moderate to severe mental illness never go untreated. Research revealed that 80% to 90% of people suffering highest level of anxiety and stress do not get adequate treatment. It was then that Dr. Vikram Patel, psychiatrist of London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, started the Siolim Project. As of today, the clinic has been the forefront to treat the emotional and mental condition of the people in the area. It has expressed its potential to transform the mental health problem in some countries in the developing world.

But instead of doctors, the program is training common people to identify symptoms of depression and treat individuals under stressed condition. With India's population of more than one billion people it will take large sums of money to raise more psychiatrists to deal with depression problems. They have only 4,000 specialists in the whole country. Dr. Greg E. Simon, researcher in Centre for Health Studies in Seattle, commended Dr. Patel's advocacy. He said "It's a really interesting, exciting thing he's doing."

The workers claimed that stress and depression has been as common to that of the wealthy. Poor people in poor countries experience the same emotional turmoil and are no longer viewed anxiety as Western affliction.

Most of these poor patients express a wide variety of causes. 29 year old Medha Upadhye, one of the councilors said, "Financial difficulties and interpersonal conflicts are there. But Unemployment and Alcoholism are some of the major problems."

Individuals, who are identified suffering the problem, increase at least 20% in a given year. Experts say that even the remotest and poorest place, severe stress has become a disabling disease similar to malaria. It is theoretically affecting the economic condition of the society. If a farmer is suffering from consistent and constant depression or stress, he cannot get out of bed to work. Most likely, his family will not have food on the table.

Which Foods With DHA Are the Best For the Maximum Health Rewards?

When it comes to foods with DHA, the list is quite short and there are not so many available now because of modern farming methods. Here are the best sources for the maximum rewards.

Very small amounts of DHA may be made in the body from an essential fatty acid, linolenic acid, but the amount made is very low and most comes from our diet. It is mainly found in animal products such as fish, eggs and meats.

Health Today

However, foods with DHA today contain a lot less as the animals no longer eat a natural rich diet themselves, so the corresponding omega 3 levels are much lower.

Oily fish, such as hoki, mackerel, herring and salmon are the richest dietary source of omega 3 fatty acids containing 10 to 100 times more DHA than non fish sources such as nuts, seeds, whole grains and dark green, leafy vegetables.

Those who follow a strict vegetarian diet are most likely to have a low DHA level as the vegetable sources contain an omega 3 called ALA which affects the body in a different way and is rarely converted into the two more useful ones, DHA and EPA.

With an estimated 90% of us being deficient in omega 3 fats, and with most fish today contaminated with toxins like mercury and arsenic, experts agree that a supplement is the best solution of all the foods with DHA.

If you want the health rewards like prevention of heart disease, lower cholesterol and blood pressure, help in the fight against breast and prostate cancer and the effective treatment of arthritis to name a few, then a daily distilled fish oil supplement is the answer.

To select the most effective and safe one ensure it's been molecularly distilled to remove all the harmful impurities and one obviously high in DHA and I would recommend at least 250mg of DHA per capsule.

Many on the market today contain low levels of DHA and may contain traces of the harmful contaminants so check out the website or label carefully to check.

Since the foods with DHA omega 3 fatty acids is so short, an omega 3 supplement containing purified fish oil is the best choice for a healthy diet.

If you would like to learn more about the high quality DHA omega 3 supplements I personally take daily, visit my website today.

Natural Health - Healing Shingles With Essential Oils

One of my famous personal essential oil testimonies is how I got rid of my shingles using ravensara essential oil.

Shingles, aka Herpes Zoster, is a severe and short lived viral infection caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox.

Health Today

It's an infection of the nervous system that affects certain areas of the skin.

Shingles originates from having chicken pox as a child.

During a childhood bout of chicken pox, not all of the viral organisms are destroyed. They hang out and stay quiet - "dormant" - in the nerves in the skin for many years.

When there is severe emotional stress, severe illness, or things that severely affect the immune system, these "dormant" critters wake up and get active again, and cause an infection.

The pain is severe and sometimes long lived, and the medical approach is anti-viral medications, steroids, pain meds, and antibiotics for potential skin infection
- and not everyone wants to take this approach (although if the outbreak is near the eyes you should definitely seek medical attention!)

So once again we say Thank God for the oils!

I had a shingles outbreak a few years ago when my mother, who had been diagnosed with kidney cancer, had surgery to have her kidney removed.

I was so stressed out that I wasn't paying attention to my body. It's interesting how that happens, isn't it?

Our bodies have to tell us the degree of how much stress we are under if we're not paying attention.

When I found out I had shingles I ran to my two favorite resource books - the Essential Desk Reference and The Alternative Medicine Definitive Guide by the Burton Goldberg Group.

Both of these books mentioned ravensara - which I had in my oil collection and loved for sinus issues.

I immediately took some internally (I had taken ravensara internally before for bronchitis so I was comfortable taking it internally again).

I put 7 drops in an empty gel cap and I took one capsule in the morning and one at night. Within one day my pain and symptoms went away.

I decided to keep myself on this regime for 21 days because that is the normal life span of a virus. My symptoms stayed away for the whole time except for one day I did forget to take my dose.

I said to myself "oh, I probably don't have shingles - I don't have symptoms so I'll stop taking the capsules." Well, within one day the symptoms came back, so I resumed to completion.

Now not everyone will feel comfortable taking oils internally, so here are ways you can use essential oils topically for the discomfort of shingles:

Blend together:

-- 10 drops sandalwood
-- 5 drops blue cypress
-- 4 drops peppermint
-- 2 drops ravensara

Dilute 50:50 with massage oil and apply 6 - 10 drops on the affected area, back of neck, and down the spine 1 - 3 times daily. (from Essential Desk Reference)

____
A case study was done of six hospice patients with shingles. It was found that three essential oils combined together and placed in distilled water and used as a spritz improved the symptoms of the shingles.

The three oils used were:

--ravensara
--bergamot
--niaouli

Aromatherapist Noel Gilligan ran this study. Mr Gilligan reported that after 48 hours:

--there was a significant reduction in the pain from the shingles
--scabbing and healing of the pustules took place and in one
instance there was a disappearance of the pustules

The Zen Macrobiotic Diet - For Health & Happiness

The Zen Macrobiotic diet originated over a century ago and today enjoys a worldwide following due its principles of harmonious living with nature through a balanced whole foods diet, and an active lifestyle and respect for the environment.

Lets look at why the Zen Macrobiotic diet has such a reputation for being one of the healthiest diets in the world.

Health Today

Origins of the Zen Macrobiotic diet

Dr. Ishizuka ( the originator of the Zen Macrobiotic diet ) suffered both kidney and skin disease, so to restore his health conducted extensive research which was compiled into two books-Chemical Theory of Longevity, published in 1896, and Diet For Health, published in 1898.

His great successor Yukikazu Sakurazawa integrated the theory with elements of eastern and western philosophy and gave the diet the name we know it by today.

Zen Macrobiotic Diet theory

The Macrobiotic philosophy is based on the oriental principles that everything in creation is made up of two antagonistic but complementary forces--yin (passive, silent, cold and dark) and yang (active, hot and heavy).

Consequently, they categorized all foodstuffs as 'yin' and 'yang', or combinations of them both. They believe that the ideal diet is one that can help balance these two forces in the body.

According to Mr. Ohsawa's yin and yang guidelines for the Zen Macrobiotic diet:

o Cereals must always be every meal's basis. The most ideal is whole, brown rice.

o Vegetables can supplement cereals, but in lesser quantities and less frequently. Eggplant and tomatoes must be avoided, as they are extremely yin.

o Fresh fish can be used occasionally. Animal and dairy products and fruits are to be used in minute amounts.

o All fluids should be taken as infrequently as possible, since they are very yin, especially tea, coffee, colas and sweetened juices. Tea made from fresh herbs, and spring water are thought to be the most balanced and acceptable beverages. Mr. Ohsawa gave a special recipe for such a tea.

Ohsawa himself defined macrobiotics as a dietetic medicine-philosophy, while his successors simply call it "a sensible way of eating". Actually, then, there is no macrobiotic diet per se, just general principles.

General principles of the Zen Macrobiotic diet

Diets based on cereal grains with minority proportions of vegetables, legumes, and seaweeds are considered ideal.

The Zen Macrobiotic diet is predominantly, but not absolutely, vegetarian.

The Zen Macrobiotic diet makes general dietary recommendations, particularly that 40 to 60 percent of caloric intake should come from whole grains, including rice, millet, barley, wheat, oats, rye, corn and buckwheat.

Additionally to the type of food eaten, the Zen Macrobiotic Diet advises:

o Do not eat processed, sugared, dyed, canned, bottled, or other adulterated food.

o Eat no foods produced have been treated with pesticides, chemical fertilizers or preservatives.

o Eat no foods imported from a long distance.

o Eat no vegetables or fruits out of season.

o Refrain from eating extreme yin vegetables, such as potatoes, tomatoes and eggplant.

o Use no spices, chemical seasonings or processed table salt.

o Drink no coffee or black tea.

o Refrain from flesh and dairy foods except for occasional fish and game birds.

o No refined flour products, yeasted foods or foods containing baking soda.

o Chew one's food thoroughly (at least 30 times - preferably more).

o Cook all food with a gas fire. Electricity is said to create chaotic energy patterns, and microwaves.

The Zen Macrobiotic Diet's 5 guiding principles for healthy living are:

1. Foods are the foundation of health and happiness.

2. Sodium and potassium (as in salt) are the primary antagonistic and complementary elements in food. They most strongly determine its character-or "yin / yang" quality of each food.

3. Grain is proper and nature staple food of man.

4. Food should be unrefined, whole, and natural.

5. Food should be grown locally and eaten in season.

The Zen Macrobiotic diet has millions of devotes throughout the world due to its healthiness and the feeling of well being that followers of the diet enjoy.

Health Insurance - Get Covered to Live Longer

An important aspect of keeping up your health is not diet or exercise - it's Ohio health insurance! It is very important that you keep yourself covered with Ohio health insurance in an effort to keep your mind and body healthy. Many people do not understand the importance of being covered.

A recent study said that people with health coverage live, on average, twenty-five years longer than a person without health insurance. Twenty-five years is a long time! That could be a third or even a quarter of your life! You may ask why health insurance can extend your life for so long and I will tell you why.

Health Today

What you may think of as a cough may actually be something else. And if it persists for weeks on end (even with home remedies and over the counter medications) it is a sign that it is something more serious-for example, pneumonia. What could have been treated early on with antibiotics is now a full-blown illness. Many people die of pneumonia each year even with treatment. And, even if you recover, you could still suffer long-term health effects. Now, this is just one example. There are dozens of others as well.

When you are not covered by Ohio insurance every trip, stumble, or fall can mean a long, painful recovery. Or it could mean an expensive trip to the emergency room that is not covered by insurance. If you don't have health insurance because you think you can not afford it then you should think again.

There are many companies in Ohio that offer affordable health insurance that will fit you and your family's needs. Begin by looking into companies in your area. Ask the Ohio insurance agents many questions in order to help them understand what you are looking for. Consider the plans that will fit your family's needs and budget. There is no sense in paying for coverage that you will not use. But at the same time, there is no point in paying a premium every month and not using the insurance because it does not fit your needs. There are many places online that will compare Ohio health plans from different companies in order for you to find the best deal possible.

Men's Health and Lifestyle - Men's Aftershave

Real men most definitely take care of their skin. Grooming counts, whether your daily ride to work is in an elevator to the top of a skyscraper or on a horse heading out on the range. Men's aftershave works to close skin pores after a shave, but there's much more to it than that!

Unless you're Rip van Winkle, you've got to shave at some time or another. Aftershaves are formulated to get the skin back to normal after the stress that a razor puts on it. Most aftershaves are some type of liquid-like a cologne splash-and yes, they do sting! They not only reduce pore size to protect your skin from external elements, they also inhibit the chance of infection.

Health Today

To avoid the sting, many guys use Men's aftershaves in the form of lotion, powder, gel, or balm. But no matter what type you use, find one with a pleasant scent. And change up your aftershave from time to time, because what smells great for one occasion doesn't always work for another.

Men's grooming issues have come a long way. It's no longer just a female thing to cleanse and exfoliate your skin regularly. Keeping product for this in the shower makes it easy to maintain healthy looking, blemish-free skin. You also need to moisturize, to protect your several layers of skin, preferably something with a sun-protection factor (SPF). And finishing your routine with the right aftershave protects your skin from razor burn.

The first Men's aftershave recognized none of these issues-it was actually a splash-on made from rum-yes, alcoholic rum-and sometimes scented with berries. It was called Bay Rum, and it's still an immensely popular scent in aftershave products today. Some men say that it's a spicy scent, with a hint of cloves, and certainly not floral. You can never go wrong wearing a Bay Rum aftershave when you're meeting your fiancée's father at the Club. It portrays an aura of tradition and strength.

Another age-old but completely natural aftershave was witch hazel. It's actually a plant extract that offers an astringent, cooling effect on the skin. You can still buy a witch-hazel aftershave that tightens up and cools the skin, even without much of a fragrance. But many of today's products offer so much more than that!

Many Men's aftershaves-astringents, balms, and other types-use a little menthol in the base. The most popular scents have a slight scent of menthol, sometimes tempered with twinges of lemon or lime. Something like this works great for a sports outing, whether you're playing or spectating.

Orange blossom oils are used in some Men's aftershaves today, and in the last few years it's a scent that turns women on. You can try Royall Mandarin. Other popular fragrances are woodsy or herbal scents. Give Men's North Woods aftershave a try. Women also seem to love herbal blends or something with a touch of cinnamon or vanilla. Cool Water carries notes of mint, sandalwood, musk, rosemary, and orange. Ralph Lauren's Polo remains popular with its crisp, clean scent.

Your body chemistry ultimately decides which Men's aftershave is right for you. Experiment a little with one or two from your drugstore shelf-because you don't have to spend a lot to smell nice-and also visit your local department store. You no longer have to put up with being sprayed by a cologne or aftershave demonstrator; pick up one of the cards available on the various counters, spritz it with whatever scent you're interested in trying, and if you like it, take it out for a spin.

Does Your Health Insurance Cover Flu Shots?

The flue season is picking up, and if years past have been any indication it is going to be a very tough time on the bodies of many. Do you get a flu shot? If not you may want to consider it to avoid paying the prices that come with getting the flu.

Lost Time

Health Today

The first thing that you have to keep in mind when it comes to getting the flu is that it will keep you out of work for a few days. If you work for someone else this may not be as big of a concern, but if you work for yourself that means you will not be able to be productive or make money.

Even if you don't work for yourself, it's not only work that loses in this case. Your personal life takes a hit too as you will be too ill to do the things you enjoy.

More Medication

The flu causes you to pick up a lot of things from the pharmacy in an attempt to get through it. From cough syrups to sleep aids and anti-nausea medication, you may rack up a pretty big bill trying to deal with the symptoms of this ailment.

Trips to the Doctor

The flu can get pretty bad. If it does for you that can mean a trip to the doctor's office, or multiple trips. If you have health insurance, you may be able to appreciate that much of this is paid for by the health insurance company. But that does not usually include everything. Most health insurance companies have deductibles you have to pay before they kick in. This will be more money out of your pocket.

Body Impact

Have you ever really considered what the flu does to your body. It's a very violent illness internally, taxing every part of your body. While you will be able to recover after a while, it can have effects that leave you feeling worn down for weeks.

Get the Flu Shot

If you couldn't control the impact of the flu that would be one thing, but you can. Today there are flu shots that can be taken to keep you from getting this illness.

Check if your health insurance policy covers getting the flu shot. Many health insurance companies cover them because they realize they will pay much less for prevention than they would to treat the flu once you get it.

Even if they don't you may want to put out the money to get a flu shot. Even if it is your expense, prevention is much more affordable than paying for the treatment once you are sick.

Petroleum and Cosmetics: What are the Potential Health Risks?

What is petroleum?

Crude oil, sometimes called petroleum, is a fossil fuel that was produced deep in the earth through a process that took millions of years to complete.

Health Today

Millions of years later, almost all of us come into contact with a derivative of petroleum every day. Through a process called fractional distillation, petroleum refineries break petroleum into many of its smaller components. Each of these smaller components is made up of molecules called hydrocarbons.

The world is full of products that come from petroleum. For example, gasoline, styrofoam, lubricating oils, and many other items are all derivatives of this raw material. How are petroleum and cosmetics related? The two seemingly unrelated items, petroleum and cosmetics, are indeed closely related in our modern world.

Mineral oil and petroleum are the basic ingredients in many cosmetic products today. Both mineral oil and petroleum have the same origins in fossils fuels. Cosmetics such as foundations, cleansers, and moisturizers often contain mineral oil. By locking moisture against the skin, mineral oil sits on the skin's surface and can potentially block pores. This may cause the appearance of pimples because the skin cannot properly 'breathe'.

Fragrances in lotions, shampoos, and many other cosmetic products are composed of aromatic hydrocarbons. Perfumes and products containing fragrance can contain many hundreds of chemicals to produce a distinct scent. A significant number of these aromas are derived from petroleum.

One popular chemical additive that carries moisture in cosmetics is propylene glycol. It is also a derivative of petroleum. Some products that list propylene glycol as an ingredient include:

- anti-freeze

- laundry detergent

- paint

- shampoo

- conditioner

Past research links propylene glycol to serious health problems as liver and kidney damage as well as respiratory irritation or nausea if swallowed.

An antiseptic, isopropyl alcohol, kills bacteria on the skin. You can find it on the ingredient list of cleansers, toners and other cosmetic products. Unfortunately, this derivative of petroleum dries the skin and may cause miniature cracks in the skin that allow bacteria to enter, potentially causing irritations or pimples.

Do these petroleum-derived products affect your health?

Your skin covers your body and acts as a physical barrier to many of the pollutants in the atmosphere. When you use products on your skin such as cosmetics, lotions, and shampoos, the ingredients in these products come into direct contact with your body's largest organ; your skin. You may ask yourself, where do the ingredients in the products go? Modern research at the Herb Research Foundation found that the skin absorbs up to 60% of the chemicals in products that it comes into contact with directly into the bloodstream. Today, hormone therapy treatments and smoking cessation medications are often prescribed as patches that you apply directly to the skin. The medication passes through the skin and directly enters the bloodstream.

For pregnant women, the risk is not only for her body but also for the developing fetus. If the chemicals found in cosmetics readily enter the bloodstream when applied to the skin, then they will also reach the developing baby. Researchers at the Brunel University in England are looking closely at a family of preservatives called parabens. Their research has recently linked parabens to the possibility that male babies will have lower sperm counts. These preservatives are derived from petroleum and help to maintain the freshness and integrity of the product. Currently, many manufacturers add parabens to cosmetics to allow a minimum of 3 years shelf life. Therefore, the parabens kill any bacteria that could potentially enter the product. If these chemical ingredients can kill the bacterial cells, what are they doing to your skin cells? In most cases, there is no conclusive answer to this question. However, the research mentioned strongly suggests that the synthetic ingredients may have a significant impact on our bodies.

In many cases, the long-term effects of many of the chemical additives in our cosmetics are not known. However, other chemical additives are known carcinogens. These types of chemicals can cause cancer in humans. Such chemicals include some artificial colours in cosmetics. The effects of chemicals and other synthetic ingredients in cosmetics may lead to mild allergic reactions causing rashes and minor skin irritation to more significant problems such as lesions on the skin.

What are your alternatives for cosmetics?

Luckily, there are alternatives to cosmetics filled with synthetically produced ingredients. Increasingly, cosmetic manufacturers are answering the public's demand for alternatives to the chemically loaded beauty and grooming supplies. The Organic Make-up Company is one such company that is leading the way in producing high-quality, organically manufactured cosmetics! As a consumer, you have the ability to decrease the number of preservatives and chemical additives your skin comes into contact with and therefore, that may enter your body. To avoid using the synthetically derived fragrances, look for products containing essential oils. These are pure oils derived from flowers and other plants in nature.

All you have to do is make the simple choice of purchasing cosmetic products with all-natural, organic ingredients. Whether you continue using cosmetics that contain petroleum-based ingredients or not is a personal choice. What is the most important is to get the facts and to know that you have a choice when it comes to buying organic or synthetic cosmetic products.

Bad Breath - What Are the Health Problems Causing Bad Breath

Are you right now wondering, what are the health problems causing bad breath in your case? The answers are numerous, as there are many health problems that can actually cause halitosis as a secondary symptom. Obviously only your doctor can give you an accurate diagnosis, but there are some common conditions we can consider here.

What Are the Health Problem From Inside the Mouth?

Health Today

It may surprise you to learn that not all bad breath problems originate in the mouth. Some come from the stomach, the digestive system, or elsewhere. But when it comes to the inside of your mouth, health problems might include gum disease or periodontitis, which is a weakening of the bones underneath the teeth. This weakening comes from excessive bacteria in the mouth and may be the result of poor oral hygiene.

So, when considering just what are the health problems causing bad breath from inside the mouth, keep in mind that many of them are related to poor oral hygiene. One of the best things you can do to keep your mouth healthy is to maintain proper oral hygiene habits.

What Are the Health Problems From Other Areas?

Many digestive problems are connected with bad breath. Having problems with your digestion sends acid and other elements up from the digestive tract and back through the throat, causing you bad breath. Eating foods that are hard to digest, such as red meat and dairy, can give you an unhealthy digestive system and halitosis. These foods can also allow bacteria to build up in the digestive tract; anything that gives you digestive problems such as constipation or excessive bloating and gas is likely to also give you bad breath.

When considering just what are the health problems causing bad breath, keep in mind that diseases such as diabetes and kidney failure also affect the body's chemical makeup, and this can manifest itself as bad breath. Anything that upsets the body's hormones or chemicals can manifest itself with bad breath as a symptom.

If you're very curious as to just what are the health problems causing bad breath in your particular case, you should definitely speak to a doctor. Some who have done so have been surprised to find out that they have a hormonal imbalance or other such problem that needs to be treated.

Choosing the Right Group Health Insurance For Your Company

Many small business owners make the mistake of purchasing a group health plan without utilizing the services of experienced insurance agents to help choose the most viable and affordable plan for their company.

Many health plans already cover the insurance agent's commission in the cost of the health care plan, thus companies should take advantage of the expertise and knowledge an experienced insurance agent can offer. When choosing between the many health plan options available, employers can actually save time and money by consulting with an established insurance agency before investing in medical coverage plans that best suit their employee's needs and the company's budget.

Health Today

Studies have shown that one of the benefits of providing group health insurance for employees is the increased retention rate for a quality workforce. In these days of high gas prices and increased costs, offering health insurance at the workplace is a big incentive for many who cannot afford individual health insurance coverage. Investing in your company's future healthcare can increase loyalty, and overall employee satisfaction, productivity, security, and of course, employee health and fitness. The cost and options of these plans vary according to group size and the state in which your insurance company, or provider is located.

Group health insurance plans start with at least two full time employees and because of healthcare reforms, every state is required to offer this coverage in the workforce. The many health plan options vary greatly and employers have a choice in what medical coverage they can afford their budget; from basic coverage, to plans that cover preventive care and dental coverage. The many options offered in managed care plans, or HMO's, and fee-for-service plans can be very confusing.

Employers must decide how much they can invest and what type of medical services they can afford for their employees. HMO's are designed to offer reduced rates by using a select group of doctors, hospitals, and other healthcare providers. Employees must stay within that network when getting medical care. Fee-for-service or indemnity group health plans allows your employees to choose their providers. They in turn have control over their choices of doctors and specialists and many options in who they want to visit for their medical services.

The majority of people insured today have insurance plans through their employers. This allows health plan providers to offer many small and large group health coverage plans. Insurance premiums vary according to the size of the workforce and include small companies with 2-100 employees, and large companies with 100 plus employees. Larger companies have an advantage because of their size and can often select reduced premium plans that offer basic medical coverage for the employees. Some health plans have higher co-pays for the employees and only cover medical care within the managed network of healthcare providers. Many plans charge higher premiums, but cover more medical services for the company's employees.

Investing in group health insurance for your employees is a major decision that needs professional advice and planning. Keeping your company's employees healthy and productive for years will pay off in increased profits and success. With an experienced and reputable insurance agent, your company can have the help and expertise to consider all the insurance options available based on your budget, the medical needs of your employees and the costs of medical services in your state. This is an important service for employers who need to comparison shop for the best health plans available for their company employees.

Fish oil offers marvelous benefits for the health of our body and mind. The best fish oil for health comes in the form of supplements made from the oil of fish that grow in deep and cold oceanic waters.

Health Today

Species found in such waters have higher concentrations of omega-3 fatty acids, especially their EPA and DHA content. The best fish oil for health comes from deep sea fish found in the waters of Alaska, Norwegian coast and coastal regions South of New Zealand.

They are home to different species of fish. Salmon found in Alaska and Hoki fish from New Zealand are very high in Omega 3 fatty acids.

Besides making sure that you use fish oil supplements sourced from pure waters, you should buy products that have undergone molecular distillation. This is the process that separates the toxins and impurities such as heavy metals and other contaminants from the oil.

The resultant oil is pure and highly concentrated, which can be truly called as the best fish oil for health. Look for 2 essential criteria in them --

1) It should be molecularly distilled.
2) It should be sourced from fish species that are high in EPA and DHA.

Not all fish species are high in both the essential Omega 3 fatty acids. Studies show that DHA is more important for health than EPA.

Read the product label carefully to see whether the EPA and DHA contents have been mentioned clearly. The sub standard products will only mention the omega-3 fatty acid contents without notifying about the EPA and DHA breakdown.

Find Out Why Eating Fish Can Cause You Health Problems and Discover a Better and Safer Alternative

So many people are eating fish today because they want to get the essential omega 3 fatty acids. However, what they may not know is that too much fish can actually cause health problems. Read on to find out a much safer alternative that experts recommend.

Yes, it is true that you can get omega 3 by eating fish and some of the health benefits of omega 3 include:

Health Today

* Keeping your heart healthy
* Boosting brain functions
* Reducing bad cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides
* Lowering blood pressure
* Relieving the pains and stiffness of arthritis and many other benefits.

The problem is that most of the fish people eat today are from the farms; hence, they do not contain enough omega 3. It is important to note that fish do not manufacture omega 3, they get it from the plankton they eat in the wild/ocean. Therefore if you are eating fish gotten from one of the many farms scattered around the world, you are not getting any meaningful nutrient from them; hence, you will not get the benefits mentioned above.

Another problem with eating fish is the issue of toxic poisoning; the truth is that fish are contaminated with toxins such as mercury, lead, PCBs and other heavy metals because of pollutions in the oceans. These toxins are very dangerous to your health; they increase free radicals in your body, poison your system, cause serious diseases and even lead to death.

So, how do you get the benefits of fish oil without the risk of toxic contamination? The answer to that question is, by supplementation; however, it is not every supplement that is pure enough for your consumption. Hence, you should always buy supplements that are purified through the process of molecular distillation to remove the toxins.

For optimum benefits, you should make sure that your supplement contains high amount of dha; experts recommend at least 250mg of dha per 1000mg capsule; however, the brand I personally take contains 280mg of dha per capsule.

Now that you know that eating fish could cause health problems for you, why don't you take the better and safer option of fish oil supplementation; however, remember to buy a brand that is molecularly distilled and high in dha.

Low Cost Health Insurance Quote - Affordable Plans Online

The Internet abounds with websites where you can get free quotes for low cost individual and family health insurance. Typically, the lowest price health plan will be an HMO or an HSA. Here is a look at these two popular plans.

Affordable Individual and Family Health Insurance Plans

Health Today

Individual and family health insurance plans from major insurance companies are readily available on the Internet. You can purchase one of these policies for yourself or your family if you are self-employed or your employer does not offer health insurance benefits.

(HMO) For many people, an HMO gives the most comprehensive coverage at the lowest cost. The reason an HMO costs less is because of the network of doctors and hospitals an HMO contracts with. Insurance companies negotiate for lower rates from doctors and hospitals to provide care for members of the plan. For this reason, HMOs tend to focus on preventive care to help keep it's members healthy.

(HSA) An HSA health plan is a high deductible insurance policy that works together with a Health Savings Account to provide medical coverage. Most major health insurance companies offer plans of this type at a surprisingly low monthly premium. A High Deductible Health Plan is basically the same as an HMO but has a higher deductible amount. Deductibles start at 00 and can go as high as ,000.

Low Cost Health Insurance Quotes

Now that almost all major insurance companies have made their medical plans available online, you can go shopping for health insurance any time, night or day, and find affordable individual and family health insurance that fits your needs and your budget.

Do Microwave Ovens Pose a Health Risk?

Quick, convenient and economical - but risky? The microwave has been with us for a long time now, and is one of our most popular kitchen appliances. It pays though, to be aware of some of the possible health risks involved in their use.

The first problem to consider is the microwave radiation itself. The magnetron in the oven produces a very high intensity alternating power food which makes the molecules inside the food move about, causing friction, and of course heat.

Health Today

The damage that microwave energy can do to living organisms has been well known since the 1930s, and when microwave ovens began to be popular in the home, studies carried out in the US demonstrated that, several models were well over what was then regarded as a safe emission limit.

Since then of course, standards for protection and microwave oven construction have improved considerably, so we don't need to worry - or do we?

Part of the problem is of course that microwaves are invisible and they have no odour, so how do you know if you they are leaking from your oven and putting you at risk? It has been generally accepted that if the door seals of the microwave are in good condition, if the door of the oven sits firmly on its hinges and fits snugly to the frame, there should be no problem. However, if you are still worried that there might be, you can buy a microwave leakage detector and check to be sure.

However, there are other dangers lurking in the microwave. Bugs. Bacteria. Germs. Call them what you like, these little creatures account for by far the greatest number of cases of food poisoning in the world today - and food poisoning can be much, much worse than having an upset tummy for a couple of days.

Just like conventional cooking, the microwave oven relies on the production of heat to kill any of the potentially hazardous bacteria that may be in our food. In order to destroy these bacteria, they must be exposed to a lethal temperature for a sufficient amount of time.

In theory, food should be cooked in such a way that the temperature zone in which bacteria multiply fastest (6 to 60 degrees Centigrade, roughly) is kept as short as possible, and final cooking time/ temperature should be such that their demise is assured. The microwave is good at doing the first bit, but not so good at the second. Fast microwave heating can often result in 'cold spots' within the food, where any bacteria present may survive quite happily.

Frequently, the outside of the food can seem really hot, while the inside is still cold. The rule here is to always go by the manufacturer's heating guidelines, including the resting phase after cooking - this allows the internal temperature of the food to even out and to continue to increase.

What about microwaves destroying the goodness in your food and even causing cancer? There is not one iota of genuine, acceptable research to even begin to support either of these notions. There is lots of speculation, but little real evidence.

Here is the biggest risk to your health connected to your microwave. Simple overheating! It is the cause of many, burning and scalding accidents every year, some of them serious. When you heat liquids in a microwave, it is possible for them to reach a temperature that is actually higher than their boiling point, and if that happens, the stem in the liquid cannot be released until the liquid is disturbed - by you removing the container or stirring it. The superheated steam then literally explodes on to your hands or face, with predictable results

You can minimise the risk simply by stirring the liquid a couple of times as you heat it.

Finally, be sure to use microwave safe plastics in your oven. Those from reputable makers will be marked 'Microwave Safe', and you can use them with confidence. Others, (often cheap imports) may leach some really nasty chemicals into your food, so are best avoided.

All in all, your microwave is a useful and very safe gadget - as long as you know the risks.
